Water Purification through Advanced Oxidation Process is a Clean Technology Water Treatment.

Viva Blu Water Purification was founded in 2006 as a venture company with the mission to develop and bring to market a substantially more efficient Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) water treatment technology than what is available today.

Viva Blu has a proprietary nano-titania photocatalysis water treatment technology that eliminates trace amounts of dissolved organic matter, in particular harmful organic compounds. This water purification technology will also disinfect water. Founding members and associates of this water technology venture have extensive experience in industrial and municipal water treatment, where Viva Blu’s value proposition will succeed.

The growth of world markets for water and wastewater is over 10% per annum, with predictions of upward deviation. The water industry size is forecast to grow from US$303 billion in 2005 to US$412 billion by 2010.

The largest investment and fastest development in water purification is coming from China and Southeast Asian countries, where the quantity and quality of water treatment is chasing the pace of the economic boom in these areas.

In more economically developed nations, increasing climate change, population growth, public health awareness and regulatory standards are driving the demand for increasingly sophisticated water treatment processes.

The Viva Blu venture company is primarily targeting the following market segments in need of eliminating trace concentrations of organic compounds in water:

The Viva Blu water technology can also inactivate trace amounts of organisms such as viruses, bacteria and protozoa.

Excel Water Technologies offers reverse osmosis water filters, softeners and purification as well as under counter water treatment.

Water Treatment Today !

Today, water treatment of secondary effluent to potable standards may include a micro-filtration or ultra-filtration process that removes pathogens and physical dirt in water.

This is often followed by a reverse osmosis (RO) treatment that removes most dissolved organic and inorganic molecules. Finally a water disinfection step can be employed to remove any residual pathogens; this step usually employs chlorine or ozone chemical water treatment.

Small organic molecules such as 1,4 dioxane and NDMA (N-nitrosodimethyl amine) can pass through all the water treatment stages, and are becoming an increasing issue. These kinds of small molecules pose a significant health risk and are linked to certain human diseases including cancer.

In order to remove these organic molecules, some water treatment plants have installed UV-H2O2 (ultraviolet light - hydrogen peroxide) equipment, also known as Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP). In these AOP plants H2O2 is injected into the effluent from the previous water treatment unit, e.g. RO, and this mix is then treated with a high flux of UV light.

The problem with today’s AOP UV-hydrogen peroxide water plants is that they are costly and inefficient, due to:

For example, a 10kl/min reactor will cost ~US$700,000 to install, and another ~US$500,000 per annum for operations & maintenance, of which over US$400,000 per annum can be attributed to UV power and peroxide consumption to purify water.

Ozone water purification treatments in combination with H2O2 dosing is an alternative AOP, however, like all chemical-based treatments, this treatment can produce dangerous chemical by-products, in this case, bromates. This AOP category is also expensive.

Viva Blu’s patented nano-titania photocatalysis water treatment technology forms the basis of a revolutionary new AOP technology platform that halves the annual power costs and negates the need for chemicals associated with the AOP segment today.

Further, the disinfection market is tending to move away from chemical-based water treatments, such as chlorine and ozone, because they are hazardous to handle and often generate harmful chemical by-products.

As a water purification venture company, Viva Blu’s physical-based, combined water disinfection-AOP technology solution is therefore positioned well.
